The African Institute for the Environmental Sound Management of Hazardous and Other Waste, has announced plans to develop a regional strategy towards the environmentally sound management and controlled trans-boundary movement of plastic waste in the SADC region.
This was revealed by the director of the National Environment Secretariat Motsamai Damane as a workshop which was held at a local hotel on Tuesday this week.
Damane said they are going to work hard to implement law enforcement on plastic waste as well as educate people about plastic recycling.
“Through plastic recycling, there will be job creations which will benefit Basotho. If we implement the laws, people will have to abide by them in keeping the clean environment while getting to know the importance of plastics.”
Lesotho and five other Southern African countries are allocated budgetary amount of USD177,150 to carry out this project which will take 12 months.
