The Storm Mountain Diamond (Pty) Ltd through its community programme has decided to support the wool and mohair farmers from the Motete Wool and Mohair Association.

Storm Mountain Diamonds (Pty) Ltd (“SMD”) operates a diamond mine in the Kao area of the Botha- Bothe district. SMD is jointly owned by Namakwa Diamonds and the Government of Lesotho.

The mine has an active community programme aimed at improving the livelihoods of the communities surrounding its operations.

The sustainability manager at Storm Mountain Diamond mine, ‘Malehlohonolo Mojaki, said the initiative is aimed at improving the production of wool and mohair for the farmers in the areas, improved breeding through procurement of improved rams as well as improved nutrition through the restoration and rehabilitation of rangelands.

She further said another area is improved infrastructure through maintenance of the current woolshed and construction of offices and accommodation rooms for the personnel working at the woolshed during the wool shearing season

“However, to date, the mine has successfully procured 31 rams for the farmers and constructed offices and accommodation rooms for the personnel working at the woolshed,” Mojaki said.
