Rapper ‘hypes up’ authentic music

By Neo Kolane

Rapper and songwriter, DonZbiano is showing just how innovative and imaginative he is, by fusing traditional famo, old school vernac and new wave hip hop into his music.

Born Tebello Ntṧinyi, the 25-year old produces music in his native language so that he can spread his message to a broad listenership in Lesotho.

The record producer, whose involvement in music started after he completed his high school in 2014, told theReporter he believes in authentic music which is as diverse as possible.

“I use my own language and make songs that every Mosotho can relate to. My music videos also promote the aesthetic culture.

“I am driven behind by a lot of my peers who are breaking boundaries with the Sesotho language. That alone gives me so much hope that we are in the right direction,” the hip-hop head said.

DonZbiano is also known for his song Mosoenko O Thata which earned him international recognition in 2021.

He steadily rose to fame with a song titled Khomo Ea Koti which was inspired by the late famo musician Famole.

“My biggest achievement was being called on a YouTube programme called Hype Me Up which is directed by Brutal Saint and Nkopane Mojakisane.

“I got calls from different record labels after performing on the show and I am still negotiating with those labels at the moment,” DonZbiano said.

DonZbiano has his own mini studio at his home in Maseru. It is at this facility where he produces most of his songs as he does not particularly like being around many people when producing his music.

He raps almost about everything that happens on a daily basis, from his culture, Sesotho fashion to proverbs.
