The First National Bank (FNB) Lesotho this week launched an online platform E-commerce where clients will be able to buy and sell goods and services on digital platforms at their own convenience.

The FNB chief executive officer Delekazi Mokebe explained that as a digital bank, it was vital for the financial institution to launch such a product which creates convenience, security and a very cost-effective way of online shopping for Basotho.

She indicated that the platform will ensure minimal physical contact. Therefore, helping reduce the spread of Covid-19.

She said the pandemic has fast tracked the evolution of digital transformation, requiring businesses to be more innovative on ways to continue operating while adhering to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) health protocols.

“There are many advantages to businesses to take up E-commerce such as broadening their distribution channels, attracting more customers in the comfort of their own environment, and making it easy to reconcile all transactions without any hassles

“It has become more important than ever for consumers to do online shopping using platforms that are secure, safe and easy to use. We are very proud as FNB Lesotho to introduce E-commerce which aligns to our strategic objective of being an innovative financial institution,” she expressed.

She explained that FNB always strives for ways to create convenience for their customers at cost-effective ways. She said the E-commerce solution benefits both businesses and consumers as a great initiative for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s). It enables to cut down on most of their operating costs such as rentals and minimises the costs of starting a business.

She further indicated that the E-commerce enables a business to operate online, which makes it unnecessary for SME’s to rent out places for operations.

The FNB’s merchant services, health desk support official Keketso Nkekoa explained the online platform is easy to use. He said a business just needs to have a business account and a live website to qualify for this online platform.
