A Mosotho film director, Thato Eric Potsane, wants to write relatable stories that spark laughter, cry and going through all the emotions while watching his comic stories.
Born May 16, 1998, the screenwriter said that his love for comedy started way back when he was introduced to acting.
He said that he aspires to be a comic writter.
“I believe it is a big world and is not everybody who creates quality material for comedy but I think Ii have got what it takes to survive. But my biggest fear is once you are in, there is no turning back.
“Nowadays we learn so little from comedy film sometimes it is actually nothing, so I wish to change that and make comedy educational like other genres especially in Lesotho,” Potsane remarked.
This week he told theReporter that he started writing in 2018 all because he wanted to tell stories through his pen. Since then, he has never looked back.
He also revealed that he knows so many writers and film producers he looked up to, saying that they are the ones who ignite his spirit to move on in his talent.
“Internationally, I admire American filmmaker Shelton Jackson “Spike” Lee because of his uncompromising, provocative approach to controversial subject matter.
Potsane who is also a film director at Right There theatre regards himself as a hard worker, young wise man although he does not hold any award or anything to prove his dedication and hard work. He is optimistic that his commitment to hard work will bear fruits in the near future.
The film student at Limkokwing University of creative technology has written and directed four student films.
He is also a cinematographer at Sothokids Culture Agency and a brand ambassador at Econet telecom Lesotho.
“From working with many individuals and companies, I believe the experience I’m gaining will forever shape me for the future,” Potsane pondered.
