The National University of Lesotho (NUL) ‘s new vice-chancellor Professor Isaac Olusola Fajana assumed duties on Monday this week.

In her welcome remarks and on behalf of the NUL Council, the chairman of NUL the council, Advocate Kuena Mophethe congratulated and wished Fajana well in his role as the administrator of the school.

Advocate Mophethe advised the new vice-chancellor to uphold the NUL’s vision, mission and values as he executes his duties efficiently.  She reassured him of the support of NUL management, staff and students at all times.

“By following the principles of good governance management, honouring the NUL values, embracing equality and diversity as well as taking constructive criticism, you will be able to lead this University and take it to greater heights. The university faces many challenges which are mostly finance-related but we are all here to support you to steer this ship to prosperity and good global standing”, said Mophethe.

For his part. Fajana thanked the University Council chairman for bringing him on board, while recognizing the contribution made by Professor Kananelo Mosito during his tenure as the vice-chancellor who he praised for running the institution in a professional manner.

He acknowledged the financial and other constraints that NUL is facing and promised to do all in his power to bring authentic leadership and positive changes where necessary for the improvement of the institution.

“A university is always looked up to for solving problems of a community but the best way to achieve this is to start first by solving the university’s own problems. With all the ingenuity that exists at NUL, we shall be able to overcome our obstacles, help Lesotho and the whole world while at the same time improving the quality of our programmes and maintaining the international rankings we aspire for”, Prof. Fajana stated.

Born and bred in Nigeria, Prof. Fajana holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Relations from the University of Lagos, Nigeria acquired in 1991.
