Lesotho mourns the Village Pope

Legendary Lesotho-born jazz musician, Tshepo Tshola has passed away at the age of 67. Born in 1953 in Lesotho, the musician is one of the most celebrated artists in both Lesotho and South Africa.  

He passed from COVID-19 related and while being admitted at Berea Government Hospital TY hospital in the Berea district.

The Lesotho-born singer made a profound impact on Lesotho and the world through his music.

Tshola joined SA’s legendary Divas on September 23 2012 at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino. Legendary Divas Abigal Kubeka, Marah Louw and Dorothy Masuku featured Tshepo Tshola with a special one-night only performance.

Speaking to theReporter this morning, his younger brother Liteboho Tshola revealed that the Village Pope passed on on Wednesday night.

Tshepo Tshola was loved by friends and family which makes it a hard time for them at the moment, as they mourn the death of their loved one.

Having been in the music industry for close to 50 years, the Village Pope is regarded as a Basotho icon who has a love affair with Jazz and who is getting stronger as the years roll by. Tshola is known for songs like Ntate, Ho lokile and many others.

He is survived by two children and two siblings.
