The launch of the Ha Thetsane road networks maintenance on Monday was overshadowed by the indolence and ineptitude of local government minister Lehlohonolo Moramotse who was out of his depth when called upon to provide key information about the project.
At an event held at Lower Thetsane, Moramotse described the Thetsane road networks as marking the beginning of the maintenance of all roads around Maseru and other districts which will kick off at a later stage.
However, when the media asked him for details such as the cost of the project and the total length of the Ha Thetsane roads to be upgraded, the minister said he had no idea, and his equally overwhelmed principal secretary Nonkululeko Zali promised to consult and come back later with the information.
On the other hand, Prime minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro who is also the member of parliament for Thetsane constituency, emphasised the need for urban roads to be maintained.
“The condition of roads in all the districts I have visited is appalling notwithstanding all the machinery and equipment at the disposal of the communities.
“The is no reason why the machinery is not being used to construct or maintain roads or be utilised on weekends.”
