Lesotho is currently in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 257 new positive cases having been reported yesterday.
One recovery and zero deaths have also been reported. The total number of infections stands at 11,903, recoveries at 6593 and deaths at 335.
Meanwhile, Lesotho is currently rolling out the second dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine to essential workers across the country.
Earlier this month the deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu announced stringent measures owing to an increase in Covid-19 cases which saw the country moving to Blue level.
He said the rate of infections has risen to 5 percent from 0 percent in the past three weeks.
He warned that the country faces the reality of losing control over containing the spread of the fatal virus as the rate of infections will overwhelm the health system.
“Due to Lesotho’s close proximity with South Africa (SA), which is rocked by the Delta variant, the country is vulnerable to this variant as it is easier to be spread in the country.”
