The ministry of education and training has announced the immediate closure of primary and high schools following the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

According to a Sunday communication from the ministry, schools will resume classes on August 1 2021, and no school is permitted to open for winter classes.

“We are all aware of the challenges that have been posed by COVID-19 in the education sector. It is imperative therefore, that, all learners and teachers stay at home.

“Please take note that, we have ventured into a new normal. This is the hardest time ever, in the history of our time,” the letter read.

The principal secretary of basic education, Dira Khama, advised parents to ensure that children stay at home and that no child should be seen roaming about aimlessly in their communities.

All children must be kept safe in their homes. They should always wear their masks and regularly wash their hands with soap and water.

“May we all join hands to support the children of this country by taking extra efforts to ensure that they are emotionally and psychologically supported during this trying time,” Khama said.
