Nine different companies and institutions located in Lioli Road in Maseru celebrated World Environment Day on Friday, by taking part in a cleaning campaign of the road.

The organisations are LSP, Maluti Mountain Brewery, Executive Transport, Lesotho Mounted Police Services, Lesotho Flour Mills, Security Unlimited, Kay Hill , Steel and Reinforcing Suppliers and Medigrow.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 worldwide.

Speaking with theReporter, LSP environmental manger, TÅ›epo Machobane stated that this year’s theme is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’, meaning there are different ecosystems that need to be preserved, not only in Lesotho but even beyond.

Machobane said cleanliness is a key component of efforts to restore the ecosystem.

“Cleanliness is vital. At the end of the day, any dirt or gabbage in these ditches can potentially find its way into the rivers and subsequently affect our ecosystem.

“This is actually the beginning of what we hope to do every year to celebrate this Day.”

Security Unlimited’s Mahalio Ramakhula said she was more than happy to take part in the cleaning exercise, as the streets are very dirty and dusty.

“The presence of so many companies and people in this space inevitably leads to hygiene challenges.”
