Local online radio station SkyAlphaHD celebrated World Menstrual Health Day by donating reusable sanitary pads to five different high schools in Maseru.

Period poverty is a problem in the Southern Sahara, including Lesotho.

This prompted SkyAlphaHD to do something about period poverty, hence it kickstarted the campaign.

SkyAlphaHD approached potential sponsors and were able to find two experts in this field.

The first is Days of Girls – an international NGO that supports Amazing Zone in Lesotho; and another new start-up venture MadHouse Rain which manufactures reusable pads.

The founder of SkyAlphaHD, Tello Leballo, said during the COVID-19 pandemic, they too had many initiatives planned, from gender based violence to human trafficking.

“We therefore addressed this one head-on; we approaced researchers on how best we could go about it.

“Dealing with period poverty and sanitary pads means we are dealing with the most sensitive issue because it has to do with hygiene,” Leballo stated.
