Police are investigating the murder of a six-year old girl of Ha Tṧiu in Maseru who was found killed and sexually assaulted in the morning of May 14.

According to reports, a 45-year old woman who is the girl’s grandmother, last saw her on May 13 at 4.00pm while she was playing with other children. The woman is said to have been drinking alcohol with other people in the village.

According to police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, when the grandmother got home and found the little girl absent, she assumed the girl had gone to sleep at her uncle’s place.

“The girl was found the following day dead and sexually assaulted as semen was found in her private parts. Her pants and shoes were found in a shack owned by a 78-year old woman of the same village.

“Our suspicion is that the deceased died from strangulation. We plead with the community of Ha Tṧiu and Basotho as a whole to come forward if they have any information on this case,” Mopeli said.
