The minister of public works Lebohang Monaheng on Friday announced that his ministry will start a project of building speed humps in community roads in two weeks.

Monaheng said this comes after they realised that communities living close to big roads are growing and as a result the number of pedestrians crossing the roads is also increasing, which leads to accidents.

He indicated that the ministry is not building the speed humps because of residents’ protests, but because the ministry saw the need to do so as it has to do research first before implementing such projects.

“Some of the villages that we will be building speed humps in include White Hill in Qacha’s Nek, Ha Sekake in Qacha’s Nek, Morija in Maseru, Ha Moitšupeli in Maseru, Thaba-Bosiu in Maseru, Ha Leqele in Maseru and Rural at Khubetsoana also in Maseru.

“People should note that we will be going to other places as well we are just going to start with those that I have mentioned. It is not because we say others are less important, all places that need speed humps will eventually have them,” he said.
