The small holder farmers from the mountainous districts of Qacha’s Nek, Thaba-Tseka and Mokhotlong were on the cue as beneficiaries of sponsorship from the Smallholder Agricultural Development Project (SADP).
The function saw 67 farmers signing contracts that will offer them an opportunity to gain funding from the SADP for implementation of varying agricultural produce.
The project director ‘Malichaba Rosalia Mokhethoa said the selected farmers had agreed to sign contracts for support in different farming produce, offering them opportunity to be on the front line for grants.
The SADP has now covered all the 10 districts whereby the project is being implemented as the phase II.
The project was started in 2019 and was declared a success in 2019 after a spree of productions from the small farming community.
The giant project has been sponsored with the World Bank’s M50 million, International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) M5 million, Japanese government’s M2 million and Lesotho government’s M8 million.
The beneficiaries contributed M5 million to make the project a success.
The SADP consists of four components that include climate smart agricultural activities, commercial agriculture, financing, project management as well as emergency response to unfavourable climate conditions.
