The Mokhotlong-based farmer Kimetso Mathaba is over M14 000 richer after a record breaking sale of wool to the Maluti Wool and Mohair Centre. (MWMC).

Mathaba, a farming member of parliament, emerged top after supplying wool to the centre totalling M14 302.95 thus setting a record among suppliers of wool and mohair to this wool and mohair brokering company.

At yesterday’s occasion hosted at the company’s premises in Masianokeng, in the district of Maseru, Mathaba received a cheque to the tune of the above amount from the MWMC managing director David Telford to celebrate his attainment.

According to the director of MWMC legal and corporate affairs Lehlohonolo Matee it had been a taunting task for his company to obtain a trading license amidst wrangling among competing companies baying for a stake for trading in wool and mohair in Lesotho.

He told the celebratory occasion that some companies were found wanting in their loyalty to their Basotho farming suppliers of the products.

On his part, the excited Mathaba expressed his gratitude for the pay-out while also sharing what he termed a “turbulent journey” in wool supply before he struck business relationships with the MWMC.

He strongly encouraged other small stock farmers to work with the local brokers such as MWMC which he claimed guaranteed supplier confidence. Preferably, he added, working with local brokers was more fruitful than aligning oneself with foreign companies.

Mathaba had supplied the centre with 193kg of wool sourced from 68 sheep sheared.

The payment was made just within a period of a month since his supply that occurred in February/March this year.

The MWMC is a Lesotho-based company established in 2018 with a sole purpose of creating a marketing platform for Lesotho wool and mohair and serving small stock farmers.
