Public transport operators have described the new Covid-19 regulations as ‘ambiguous and confusing’ because they do not clearly spell out the exact safety measures that public transportation are supposed to employ.

Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro on Sunday announced a relaxation of restrictions by moving the country from the purple to the less stringent blue level restrictions. The new regulations come into effect immediately.

Maseru Regional Taxi Operators (MRTO) spokesperson, Lebohang Moea, says even though the new regulations do mention the capacity at which both taxis and buses will operate, it is not clear what they are required to do to ensure the safety of passengers.

The Prime Minister did indeed announce that public transporters are now permitted to allowed taxis to operate on full capacity, but insisted they are not allowed to carry passengers exceeding their legal capacity. He said taxis should have a sanitizer to apply on their passengers.
