The rehabilitation of bridges that were destroyed by the recent heavy rains has commenced with the construction of two bridges in the Makhoroana and Mosalemane constituencies on Wednesday this week.
This comes just after the Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro declared a state of emergency in the wake of large-scale destruction of public and private properties caused by heavy rainfalls that left roads and bridges eroded.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative at Likolobeng River, the minister of public works, Lebohang Monaheng said government embarked on the project to ensure people’s lives return to normal.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu said the two bridges will be completed within six months, with 90 people being hired on each bridge. He called for transparency in the hiring of people, to avoid conflicts among community members.
“M6million will be spent on the building of these bridges and the construction will give jobs to 90 people,” he said.
