Twenty-six-year old Refumane Matlotlo of Ha Makhabane in Mohales’s Hoek, appeared before the magistrates court on charges of rape.

According to police reports, the suspect is accused of raping a 61-year old woman of the same village.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli says, on the evening of February 7, the suspect broke into the victim’s house, who was already in bed. The victim heard that someone was in the house and tried to get up but the suspect allegedly assaulted her before raping her.

Mopeli says the victim was able to recognise her molester and reported the matter, leading to the suspect being arrested.

The accused will appear again before court on March 1; he remains in police custody.

In the same district, 32-year old Likopo Abram of Lithipeng, appeared before the magistrate court, also on rape charges.

Police reports indicate that the suspected is accused of sodomizing a 13-year old boy from the same village, while the two were tending cattle together. The incident was reported by fellow herd boys who had witnessed it.

He said the suspect will appear in court again on March 6.
