The Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) says the widespread rainfalls that started on Monday night are expected to continue into Tuesday, becoming heavy over some places in the northern parts of the country and leading to localized flooding in some areas.
According to LMS, the rainfall intensity and spatial distribution is anticipated to reduce on Wednesday.
LMS communications officer, Lekhooa Letsatsi says compared to the previous rainfalls, these will be even heavier. He also advises Basotho to adapt to innovative agricultural practices such as building greenhouses for food security, since Lesotho has not been spared the impact of the global warming which has affected many countries.
Letsatsi also encourages Basotho to stop cutting trees, but plant them in order to prevent soil erosion while reducing the effects of global warming, since trees help maintain the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
The nation is therefore encouraged to take necessary precautions during this period. The nation is also advised to stay tuned to local media for frequent updates from Lesotho Meteorological Services.
