After graduating from Lerotholi Polytechnic tried to look for a job but after many unsuccessful application, Khotso Motlomelo decided it was time he started his own business, now known as Makhuzo’s Snack.
In an interview with theReporter, the Ha Mabote-born budding entrepreneur asserted that starting the business was not easy at all, but he knew it was something he had to do to put food on the table.
Makhuzo’s Snack produces biltong (dried meat) that is even sold in local supermarkets and filling stations.
Motlomelo explained that he started his business in April last year at the height of the first Covid-19 induced nationwide when it was a difficult time for everyone to get by and people needed to be independent as many were losing their jobs.
“The process of production takes a day a half, maximum, but sometimes it depends on the weather. We spice the meat and dry it with a dehydrator before it is ready for packaging.
“People seem to love our product very much and I am really overwhelmed with the support that Basotho have shown me in such a short time of starting this business,” he said.
He pointed that many young people should see the need to start their own business because of the high rate of employment. He said it is high time the young of Lesotho took a stand and produced things in their own country instead of always buying from outside the country.
He noted that many young people always have a saying that ‘not everyone can be an entrepreneur’. which discourages people from even starting.
“We should not just start our businesses looking to make a quick buck. It should be something that you are planning to build and turn into a legacy for yourself and your country.
“It makes me very proud that the Makhzo’s snacks are known around the country, and that is a legacy on its own. I cannot say where I would want to be in the next few years because I want that to speak for itself,’ Motlomelo said.
He indicated that people can find his famous biltong at local supermarkets and filling stations.
