Vendors operate on the sly

Scores of vendors eager to make a living amid the ongoing national lockdown continue to operate secretly, evading law enforcement agents, on many corners of Maseru city.

Although there is heavy visibility of Lesotho Defence Force in major roads and in residential areas, vendors who spoke to this publication said they feel more comfortable around the military men and women, who leave them to go about their business as long as they observe safety precautions. They say police are not so accommodating, as they continually harass vendors and even seize their goods.

The vendors say they do not have a problem sticking to the Covid-19 regulations, so the government must allow them back on the streets, especially since government itself failed to come up with a contingency plan to assist vendors during the lockdown.
