uBuntu Media and Arts, uNejah Studios and African Culture Fund have released a local drama called ‘Studio 266’ which is aimed at raising awareness on Covid-19 regulations in a simple but relatable approach to people’s daily lifestyle.
The local drama is about Covid-19 and how it has affected society. It consists of 10 episodes in its first season which started airing in December. It is released every week via Facebook page, WhatsApp and it will soon be aired on radio.
Speaking to theReporter, lead crew member and sound engineer, Nelson Chikuvira stated that the episodes focus on the daily lives of people in Lesotho.
“Our drama series tries to address and show issues people are facing because of Covid-19, like job losses and the effect they are having on families, the lack of information to the public to properly equip themselves and decreasing chances of getting affected by Covid-19,” he said.
Chikuvira also revealed that the drama looks at the lack of seriousness towards taking precautions despite knowing the risks people are putting themselves in.
“There have been three episodes out now and the first one addressed vendors and safety precautions and explored if they are actually taking care of themselves, while the second episode is about passengers in a taxi, where one passenger is not wearing a mask and another passenger is not allowing circulation of air in the taxi,” Chikuvira explained.
Chikuvira stated while doing this drama, that major problems they have seen are that there is lack of personal protective equipment, and the tippy taps installed around town are not operational anymore.
Chikuvira emphasized that their aim is to give people the correct information without any conspiracy theories, so as to empower them and not to scare them.
“Every Friday, an episode is released,” he stated.
