Mosotho Chakela is no more

Famo musician and leader of the Terene music group, Rethabile Shadrack Mokete, famously known as Mosotho Chakela is reported to have died this morning.

Speaking to a local radio station, the deputy leader of Terene, Nteei Tśehlana confirmed that Mosotho Chakela died this morning in the Free State town of Bloemfontein.

“He leaves behind his music group, and every member is shattered,” Tśehlana stated.

Tśehlana said on December 28, Mosotho Chakela and three other members of Terene were travelling when they fell ill, showing signs of COVID-19.

“They went to the hospital. Two of them were discharged, and is still in hospital while Mosotho Chakela lost his life. He was hypertensive and his blood pressure had shot unusually high. We are still waiting for his results as he also had symptoms of the virus.

“The discharged pair do not know for sure where they contracted the virus as travelled a lot between Bloemfontein, where they are based, and the mines in Gauteng mobilizing support for the Democratic Congress party.”

Burial details are yet to be announced. The deceased is survived by his mother, wife and children.
