Ministry publishes Precious Stones Regulations

The ministry of mining says the minister, Serialong Qoo has published the Precious Stones (Prevention of Illicit and Theft of Diamonds) Regulations 2020.

These regulations allow for the surrender and voluntary declaration of diamonds whose holders are without proper documentation. Those diamonds will be sold by the government on their behalf.

The notice issued today from the ministry stated that the ministry has arranged for diamonds to be brought to the District Administrator’s office as per schedule attached below, also diamonds can be handed in to the department of mines office which is the commissioner of mines office every Tuesday starting from today to the last of Tuesday of January between 08:00 am to 16:00 pm

“The public is also invited to note that applications for diamond dealer’s license are open and licenses will be issued during the second week of January, in preparation for sales in February,” the notice read.

All the parcels will be sold in an open auction to be held at the department of mines in February 2021.
