The minister of gender, youth and recreation and the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) have announced plans to work together to improve sports facilities and, eventually, boost the economy.

The parties made this announcement after Minister Likeleli Tampane took a tour of the Setsoto Stadium on Monday, where she assessed the condition of the stadium which has been in a state of disrepair for some time.

Tampane said she is not happy with the derelict condition of the stadium, and stated the best solution is for the ministry to take it back from LSRC’s control and renovate it before handing it over to a private entity to manage it.

She said the decision to hand over the stadium management to the private sector still needs to be approved at cabinet level.

The minister said the competence of a company that will be selected to manage the stadium will be assessed after five years and, if the ministry is not happy it will look for another company to do the job.
