The National Covid-19 Secretariat’s (Nacosec) CEO Thabo Khasipe, today, outlined the requirements and processes for incoming and outgoing Basotho travelers after the reopening of borders which is effective from tomorrow.

Khasipe said Basotho who have been stuck in South Africa should come forward so they could be assisted, screened and self-isolate if they show no signs of Covid-19.

He went on to disclose the Nacosec has written to the South African High Commission seeking clarity on what is required of Basotho travelling to South Africa.

This follows the confusion that followed a claim (that went viral) by a deputy minister, that people travelling Lesotho were exempt from producing a 72-hour before entering South Africa. The deputy minister further claimed the SA High Commissioner had stated that the certificate is required from people who come from high risk nations like the United States, Brazil and Russia.

Meanwhile, local Covid-19 testing laboratories say the South African requirement does apply even to Lesotho, and is not limited to the so-called high risk countries.

Requirements and processes for incoming Basotho travellers effective from 01st October 2020

Requirements and processes for outgoing Basotho patients effective from 01st October 2020.

Requirements and processes for outgoing Basotho migrant workers effective from 01st October 2020.
