The National Covid-19 Secretariat (Nacosec) says the country is still in a state of the pandemic, despite the expiration last week of the six-month state of emergency that came into force in March.
Nacosec CEO Thabo Khasipe provided insight on the progress they are making in the fight against Covid-19. He said they ran 234 tests on Monday this week and 34 came out positive.
No deaths, no recoveries. The positivity rate is 15 percent this week. Overall, the positive cases are 1507, 766 recoveries and 35 deaths.
“The nation must maintain a five percent positivity rate for two consecutive weeks before it moves out of the most-restrictive “purple” tier and into the slightly less strenuous “orange” tier.
“However, we are on 17.3 percent, meaning we are further away from the positivity rate than we should be,” Khasipe said.
Khasipe re-emphasised the importance of abiding by all the rules and prevention measures and the use of media and communication outlets to sensitize people on the prevention measures against rapid spread of Covid-19
