Man of God, community in tug-of-war

The minister of small business development, cooperatives and marketing has given the Mphosong community in Leribe the greenlight to use the local shearing shed pending finalization of a court battle over its ownership.

The dispute over the ownership of the shed has been going on since earlier this year when St. Paul African Apostolic Church leader, Bishop David Teboho Ramela allegedly made a move to claim it as his, even though it belongs to the community.

The Pitseng Multipurpose Wool and Mohair Cooperative Society says the shed has belonged to the community for generations, until Co-op Lesotho told them Ramela had purchased it and other sheds in neighbouring villages, and that they effectively belonged to him.

This row, which has reportedly ended up in the High Court of Lesotho, has resulted in the shed being shut down, prompting Minister Keketso Sello to intervene in the impasse on Monday this week.
