A 17-year old boy of Lesia in Maseru is believed to have committed suicide after his body was found hanging from a tree on the South Africa side of Mohokare River on Monday.

The boy was last seen on Sunday when he reportedly left to attend a football match in the area, but never came back.

A search party that included his father had their worst fears confirmed when they spotted a lifeless body dangling from a tree, which upon investigation turned out to be the missing boy’s.

News of the chilling find was confirmed by a member of the Ha Tsolo community policing forum, Ranku Hlapisi, who was at the scene of the suspected suicide.

“We called the Thetsane police but they did not arrive on time. Member of the South African Police Service arrived at the scene and, together with their defence force, they retrieved the body and took it to a morgue in the neighbouring town of Botshabelo. They insisted it was their responsibility because the incident had happened on South African soil,” Hlapisi said.
