Global Marketing is a holding company founded and owned by Musa Maema, and has Global Cabs as one of its subsidiary companies.
Maema says Global Marketing was created to help, motivate and give tips to small businesses, with the help of local radio station Harvest FM.
He said during lockdown, he and his team came up with an idea to create a system called ‘my service’ which facilitated quick and easy access to all essential services emergency and ambulance services. The system is available on all types of phones.
“We would have preferred for every service to be independent, but we realized it would be too complicated. Hence we settled for the cab service, which was informed by the demand for transportation in emergencies.
“This service allows people to call a cab even without internet or data. We were motivated mostly by the Covid-19 pandemic which showed the world that everything could actually come to a standstill. We realised that we live in a world that depends on technology.
“Coming up with this system made us realise that as people we are still holding on to our old ways; that needs to change because the world is also changing. We need to keep up with technology
“The Global Cabs system allows you to call a cab from anywhere at any time without airtime or internet, as long as you are connected to one of the local networks. The user has to dial *135# and then follow the instructions. Our only challenge is people like testing it just because it is a free service, and we end up taking trips that amount to a wild goose chase. Otherwise people have really welcomed it with both hands and we are extremely grateful for their support,” Maema said.
He further indicated that their services are at the moment limited to Maseru, although clients can be transported anywhere in the country and even internationally.
He said plans are afoot to extend to all districts. “The demand for cab services is very high, so is the risk of falling victim to rogue cabs.”
