The ministry of trade and industry says it has come to its attention that there is a circulating document entitled ‘Savingram’ which purports to be issued by the ministry to the business community.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry says the document falsely states that the ministry of trade and industry has reported six cases of Covid-19. The document goes further to request the business community to make donations to fund sanitisation of the ministry’s offices.
“The business community and the general public are hereby informed that the ministry of trade and industry has not reported any case of Covid-19. Further, the ministry has not issued a savingram to the business community requesting donations to disinfect its premises. The ministry disassociates itself from this document and its contents.
“People who received this ‘Savingram’ or who may receive it, and people who have been asked or will receive a request after hearing this statement, are urged to report the matter to the office of the deputy principal secretary of the ministry of trade and industry or call the following numbers: +266 2231 3737, +266 2232 5272 and +266 5953 6238.
“The ministry of trade and industry strongly warns the business community that this is a plot by unscrupulous and corrupt people to cheat compassionate people. The ministry of trade and industry assures the public of its commitment of zero tolerance to corruption and assures the Public that investigations are on-going to identify the culprits and once identified, all possible actions will be taken against them,” the statement concluded..
