The Office of the Prime Minister has announced the appointment of former foreign affairs and international relations principal secretary, Lerotholi Pheko, as the new government secretary.
Pheko replaces former long serving government secretary Moahloli Mphaka who has been appointed as Lesotho’s advisor to the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission, where he will help Lesotho maximize its economic benefits in the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
This comes shortly after the Office of Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro announced the appointment of 13 principal secretaries, redeployment of five PS’s and contract renewal of another five PS’s.
Last month, Majoro slammed Mphaka for allegedly ‘unilaterally and fraudulently’ renewing the contracts of then principal secretaries, ‘Mabotle Damane and ‘Maseithati Mabeleng, earlier this year.
Majoro had insisted Mphaka had no legal authority to renew principal secretaries’ contracts, and that that power was vested in him as prime minister and he acted in consultation with the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Mphaka’s actions were defended by former prime minister Thomas Thabane, who was himself unceremoniously removed from office in May this year.
