Following the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions by Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro last week, the minister of health has finally released a gazette enforcing the new Public Health Covid-19 Risk Determination Mitigation Measures.
The new regulations, which came into force on Monday, permit public transportation to operate at full capacity. However, this is limited to cabs and 15-seater minibus taxis, while buses are barred from carrying standing passengers.
Another relaxation affects church services, which are now limited to 50 people for indoor sermons and a maximum of 100 for outdoor services. These are subject to prescribed safety protocols like wearing a mask even when singing.
The tourism industry, specifically accommodation venues, will operate at 100 percent occupancy, but identification registration will be needed; they are strictly permitted to offer room.
As for schools, only standard 7/Grade6, Form C/Grade 10 and Grade 12/LGCSE learners will resume classes in the second week of September subject to development and approval of standard risk-based guidelines. Institutions of higher learning, too, will be reopened subject to similar conditions.
