The Examination Council of Lesotho (ECOL) has announced that the Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) supplementary examinations will take place on July 1.

In the statement released earlier this week, ECOL explained that students will receive their examination time tables from May 25 and will be available at their examinations writing stations.

It was also explained that the financial registration deadline for both LGCSE and Junior Certificate for final year examinations is on or before June 30. Schools are expected to submit lists of pupils who will be sitting for JC and LGCSE final examinations on May 22.

ECOL made this announcement after schools were closed since March 2020 due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Meanwhile last week the ministry of education announced that schools can now reopen but still follow the social distancing and hygiene regulations.

The statement explained that higher education schools, LGCSE and JC can continue to reopen schools but while making sure there are not more than 40 students in a class.

Speaking on a local radio station this week minister of education and training Mokoto Hloaele said before the school decide to reopen, the ministry has to go check the steps they (school) have taken on hygiene.

He said as the ministry they have to make sure that the school has taken satisfactory measures that will keep students safe while learning,

So far Lesotho has only reported only one case of Covid-19, four months since the virus’ outbreak earlier this year.
