Legendary Famo musician, Mants’a Mohale rocked the crowd at Alliance Sports Media Awards held at Avani Lesotho last Friday.
Mants’a proved once again why he was the best Sesotho musician to have come out of Mafeteng district defying all the odds that bedevil the music scene in Lesotho. He also introduced a member of his band, Kholumo who is a solo artist, attesting to his mission of providing opportunities to other singers.
Mants’a made everyone at the hotel’s hall stand up on to dance to his Famo music, doing it in a line as they vibrated their shoulders rendering an electrifying performance. He dropped hit after hit for his fans who begged for more and more while also controlling the crowd with small conversations in between the songs.
He showed why he was getting bookings to perform at Jazz festivals yet he is a Famo artist as his music carries a lot of valuable message that can help families and lovers to live in peace and harmony. Almost all his songs have no vulgar language but carries advice to the listener while also entertaining at the same time. Mants’a has a music career spanning more than 30 years and has shown no sign of quitting as he matures nicely like a good wine.
‘I want to say to all my fans I love you, because you have contributed so much to what I have become. Everything that I have is because of you my fans as you have been buying my music and attending festivals in which I perform. I will never forget your support and the love that you have shown to me over the years. I’m getting old now and I must share my talent with other musicians who have been part of my journey,’ he has said.
He has been able to be out of the gangs associated with most Famo Artists from Mafeteng. His music is enjoyed by young and old people alike because of the strong respectful message that he delivers in Sesotho painting a picture with his words that makes a Mosotho even more proud.
One of the highlights of his career has been winning a South African Music Award (SAMA) and being nominated for other various awards. He has also shared a stage with Jazz musician, Selimo Thabane belting out a song which they composed for Alliance Insurance Company.
His future will be mainly about mentoring and giving opportunities to fellow musicians.
