What a Way to Kick off the Afriski Mountain Resort Winter Season

I believe that it’s safe to say that we kicked off this winter season in a pretty remarkable way. First of all, partnering up with Eighteen13 and Hope Gin already added another star to this already 5-star Afriski experience.

Day 1 – Friday 1 June 2018

Friday Afternoon

We wasted no time getting the festival started and kicked off that afternoon with sundowners and canapes in Gondola Café. The Gondola Café was the perfect setting to start of the event and the acoustic sounds of Courtney, Jordan and Ali from Dishevelled helped everyone feel right at home.

Friday Evening

The evening then moved on to Sky Restaurant for dinner and a show. You might ask yourself’ “What’s the big deal, it’s probably just your average restaurant”. Well, it’s not just your average restaurant due to the fact that it’s the highest restaurant in Africa. The mood was set with the soothing jazz sounds of Origins Band, a unique group with three instrumentalists; piano, drums and bass, four vocalists and a poet, from Maseru in Lesotho.

Day 2 – Saturday 2 June 2018

Saturday morning

Saturday morning was a bluebird day with plenty of skiing, snowboarding and bum-boarding fun on our beginner slopes. You could see that everyone was filled with weekend spirit as they killed it on the slopes.

Saturday Brunch

Eighteen13 took it upon themselves to treat our guests to a one-hour masterclass in Sky Restaurant. We had a wine expert in the house, Cezanne Kouta. He provided our guests with a greater understanding of their favourite wines and covered the basic tips on wine tasting etiquette. He also touched on the role of climate change in the wine-making process.

Saturday Afternoon

Saturday afternoon kicked off the ‘Sip and Spirit’ activity-based tasting. The boutique wines from each farm and Hope Gin was paired with a fun-filled activity. Five tasting stations were set up around the resort whereby guests could stop to find out more information about each of the wines and gin. they could also try their hand at a number of activities. Wine Pong, ‘Mieliegat’, ‘Pétanque’, Building a Snow-man and paintball wine target shooting assured us that there’s never a dull moment.

Saturday Evening

Saturday evening was a classy affair with fancy attire and square toes everywhere. The evening started at the Sky Restaurant where we enjoyed the acoustic sounds of Dishevelled and the jazzy, upbeat sounds of the Origins. With the mood set, everyone indulged in a mouth-watering dinner paired with the best wines selection you’d ever experience. The Origins gave this party the kickstart it deserved and before no time everyone was off their seats and moving along with the music. The Gondola Café kept the party going. DJ Blacksparrow moved in behind the disk and in no time the evening closed down as one to remember.
